Socks

by Wendy Stout

Dotty

Help! I just had an extraterrestrial experience with my dryer! I have the broken dryer and a pair of socks to prove it—but no one will believe me. Everyone thinks I’m crazy.

Russ walks away when I bring up the subject. Lu-Lu exchanges ‘get-a-load of her’ smirks with our co=worker. Mother wants me to call my therapist. She’s no help!

I feel so misunderstood. That’s why I’m posting this excerpt from my book On the Spin Cycle for you to see for yourself!

Pocket

I feel for Dotty. Really I do. She’s convinced there is an invisible vortex in our dryer. She claims aliens are swiping our socks!

I know it sounds nuts! But what strikes me as even more crazy is how everyone keeps trying to persuade her otherwise. Dotty truly believes what Dotty believes. You can’t change that. But humans are always trying to get each other to see the world exactly the way they do. They even fight wars over it. Personally, I believe the whole of human kind would be happier if humans would stop trying to force their reality on others.
